Technical Details:
The Carbon Calculator Tool is a user-friendly spreadsheet tool that calculates the GHG emissions (carbon) footprint for selected gas construction and operations activities. The foundation of the tool is built around the use of existing knowledge, EPA related information and other GHG models developed by researchers in this area. The tool includes emission data from raw material production, equipment/fuel usage and equipment operations for a variety of pipe sizes and installation techniques. The tool can quickly and conveniently calculate the Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions associated with operations, maintenance and construction activities for natural gas, and sewer and water pipelines with minimal input. Contractors and utility companies will better understand the impact of the carbon output of various trenchless construction methods and direct burial activities (e.g.; Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD), Cured-In-Place Lining, and Pipe-Splitting).
