This project developed multiple steps in examining PE pipe. Specifially 1) determine detection capabilities of ultrasonic NDE for flaws in butt fusion joints in 4" and 8" HDPE pipes, 2) determine critial flaw sizes and quantities that reduce the long-term and short-term integrity of butt fusion 4" and 8" HDPE joints, 3) Manufacture an NDE system/method for inspecting butt fusion joints and 4) Perform inspection trails and training of the NDE system on various PE joints at NYSEARCH member company locations. TWI will be providing both short-term tensile tests on 72 pipe specimens and 38 butt fusion pipe section will be subjected to TWI's patented "Whole Pipe Tensil Creep Rupture Test" to evaluate joint integrity and long-term performance
