The objective of proposed work is to determine the specific technology needs and applications for
no-blow tools for a consortium of funders and to transfer and/or develop new no-blow technologies. By eliminating the need for blowing gas, local distribution companies will improve public and worker safety, help reduce the carbon foot print and greenhouse gas emissions. ConEdison initiated the work on No-Blow Tools and developed and implemented the first set of tools for 4"-12" diameter cast iron and steel mains operating at low pressure (1/4 psi). This program effort in addition to other tool developments dramatically reduces natural gas emissions of every day work tasks. The new "No Blow" work tasks include: installing/removing bypass pipeline, installing/removing service tees, inserting stoppers and pipe plugs and tapping holes in pipe under live gas conditions.
