PipeGuard™, originally designed for security perimeter monitoring, is currently being marketed by Magal/Senstar as a new damage prevention technology with the ability of distinguishing excavating from non-excavating events. PipeGuard™ is an acoustic/geophone based system designed to provide a remote early warning to operators when an excavating event occurs in the vicinity of a buried pipeline. The PipeGuard™ technology was selected by NYSEARCH for evaluation to determine its technical and economic feasibility for monitoring distribution pipelines. The workscope included

The workscope included assessing both urban and rural areas with respect to perfomance, reliability and suitability for both temporary and permanent installations. Based on the success of the initial evaluation, the program was extened to streamline and optimize PipeGuard™system for distribution pipeline sections and "hot-spot" protection of critical areas.
