NYSEARCH/TT Technologies Continue Field Testing of Trenchless Service Replacement Tool in Orange & Rockland Utilities Territory

Trenchless Service Replacement Tool - Field Testing

Field Testing of Tool in Orange & Rockland Service Territory

Taking advantage of warmer January weather and seeking information about the benefits and challenges of a new trenchless technology tool to replace steel services, the trenchless tool provider and contractor for a NYSEARCH development project, TT Technologies, performed tests at (3) different sites in O & R’s territory.

The project team worked at several residential sites, based on identification of need and system characteristics by O & R in the Rockland County area. In one continuous process, the existing steel service is pulled out and removed as the new plastic service is simultaneously pulled into place providing reduced disruption to the customer, with no additional excavation and limited required restoration work.

Illustrated in the image on this page is an example of the tool in operation during the January 2017 field tests. TT Technologies plans to finalize the design of the tool and incorporate lessons learned in their commercial product after the remaining tests are completed and feedback is provided by NYSEARCH funders.
