Technical Details:
The objective of this project is to establish a technology solution that would use high pressure gas to produce clean, environmentally beneficial power that would be supplied to the electric distribution network. Hence the project title - 'Pressure into Power.'
In this project, Enbridge would use expansion and a turbine system to generate electricity from existing city gate/district pressure reducing stations. Supplemental to this effort, Enbridge has the option to combine heat and power fuel cells which would reap environmental and economic benefits.
Apart from environmental and economic advantages, information accumulated from this project can be used as a platform for governmental and regulatory discussion about risks and gains of 'Pressure into Power' and energy recovery.
