Millennium Project Number: M-2003-014

Project Title: Evaluate Cured-In-Place Liner Technology To Retain
Cast Iron Pipes Affected by Third Party Excavations

Project Start Date: 2003

Projected End Date:
2005

Technical Details:

The cured-in-place liner program investigated the behavior of cast iron pipes with cured-in-place liners when subjected to severe conditions, such as parallel or undermining third party exactions. Cornell University was contracted to provide a series laboratory tests that involved thermal expansion/contraction; traffic loading; effects due to parallel excavations; life assessment and long term effects of liner adhesion. Throughout the testing process the cured-in-place liners were proven to withstand all tensile, puncture, and tear tests. As a result of this program, it was determined that the use of cured-in-place liners can extend the life of cast-iron systems when subjected to these external forces for more than forty years.
