Millennium
Project Number: M-2002-019
Project
Title: PCB/PFT Explosives Real-Time
Analyzer
Project Start Date: 2003
Projected End Date: 2006
Technical Details: The objective of this project is to take a NASA/JPL
technology and modify the design such that a
mobile lab-type truck can be equipped with a
PCB (alpha unit) and later a PCB/PFT (beta unit)
for real-time field analysis. The Reversal Electron
Attachment Detector or READ instrument is capable
of detecting PCB's in sludge from a gas main
or oils in a manhole, and perfluorcarbon tracers
(PFT's) that are injected into a gas main upstream
of a very saturated gas migration pattern as
a resourcing for leak pinpointing. EPA approval
for PCB identification will be sought.
The prime consultant handling the NASA/JPL intellectual property, manufacturing efforts of JMAR, EPA approval process, and funds management will be FemtoTrace. The goal is for FemtoTrace to use feedback from the field-testing of the alpha and beta units so that JMAR can establish a commercial presence in the utility and other industries.
