Project
Title: Reduced Customer Outage for
CIP liners
Project Start Date: 2002
Projected End Date: NA
Technical Details:
Cured in Place liners are used by LDC's to seal
leaks in aging steel and cast iron piping. However,
installation of the liners can involve an extended
outage for those customers located along the
affected distribution main. For this reason,
the use of liners is mostly limited to those
pipe sections with little or no service taps.
This project will investigate methods to accelerate
the cure time for the liner and also to expedite
performance of the air test so that associated
customer outage times for lining projects are
reduced.
The project investigated steam curing, hot water curing, and also briefly looked into UV curing. The conclusions were that steam curing offered the most realistic prospects for accelerating the liner curing. Curing liners with steam will be performed later this year by PPM, the CIP liner installer.
