Millennium
Project Number: M-2001-009
Project Title: Urban Utility Center Technology
Laboratory
Project
Start Date: 2001
Projected End Date: 2006
Technical Details:
This is a two part
project that will include, first, the creation of
a Trenchless Technology Demonstration Laboratory
(TTDL) at the Urban Utility Center for the performance
assessment of "thin-walled" PE liners
(Subline, Rolldown, Swage Lining) and CIPP liners
(Starline, Paltem). This laboratory will perform
tests that will evaluate the ability of thin-walled
HDPE and CIPP liners to bridge holes and gaps in
the host pipe primarily focused on urban infrastructure
pipeline systems.
Another
primary objective of the Urban Utility Center is
to facilitate the cooperation between the NYCDEP
and the NYC utilities for the demonstration and
performance assessment of innovative infrastructure
technologies and, thereby, enhance the technical
capacity for upgrading the performance of the aging
infrastructure systems. Within this context, it
is proposed to establish the TTDL laboratory. It
is anticipated that this laboratory, working with
the Agencies' Laboratories in field demonstration
studies, will provide the NYCDEP and NYC utilities
with a cooperative framework to jointly conduct
mutually defined laboratory projects for the continued
performance assessment of new technologies. Secondly,
the laboratory project, in concert with NYC agency
and inter-utility cooperation, will foster the development
of public and private relationships that will result
in mutual benefits associated with avoidance-interference
conflicts on NYC construction projects.
These projects are being co-funded by KeySpan and
Con Edison in cooperation with the Urban Utility
Center.
