Millennium
Project Number: M-2000-007
Project Title: Emerging Technologies
for Natural Gas (IGT)
Project Start Date: 2000
Projected End Date: 2003
Technical Details: Participating with
more than 50 utilities and other gas organizations,
develop advanced technologies to improve the efficiency,
reliability maintainability and extend the operating
life of gas facilities. Assess the merits and
feasibility of highly innovative ideas and technologies
that could lead to practical solutions, products,
and new opportunities for future use on the gas
transmission and distribution gas system.
Market
forces are driving manufacturers, developers,
and supporting institutions toward near-term
deployment of select, well-developed concepts.
Global competition and capital resource limitations
limit the acceptance the risks associated with
longer term R&D and development of new and innovative
technologies. IGT coordinates this program with
more than 50 utilities and gas organizations
to conduct the necessary research and development
to build a natural gas technology base to address
the needs of utilities, and with the aim of
deploying ideas and concepts well beyond the
near-term horizon. Utility participation of
$2 million per year is leveraged to over $7
million per year through participation from
EPA, DOE and other industry participation.
Funding this project are more than 50 utilities
and organizations.
